With exports worth $1.02 billion in 2017, the textile, garments and other wearable industries in the Philippines project a combined 20 per cent export growth this year to $1.22 billion. The garment, leather, and textile sectors will be the focus of the four-day ‘Philippine Garment, Leather Goods and Fabric Expo’ set to start from December 5 in Pasay City.

The second edition of the event will attract manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and stakeholders to help boost the country’s potential in producing garments, leather goods and textiles for export, according to a report in a Philippine newspaper.

Endorsed by the Philippine Board of Investment and the Confederation of Wearable Exporters of the Philippines, a variety of garment machinery and parts, textile machinery, non-woven machinery, dye machinery and chemicals, tools for factory automation, quality control, design and software will be showcased at the event.

The expo last year has over 80 exhibitors from nine countries—China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Pakistan, Singapore, Taiwan, Vietnam and Philippines—and attracted 4,800 trade visitors.

Domestic companies participating in this year’s event are Armena Embroideries, D & A Edge Polymer Philippines Inc., Golden Island Fashion Accessories, Kelin Graphics System Corp., Printway Marketing and Services, Shanghai Global Corp. and Testex Philippines representative office.

The expo is supported by the Textile Producers Association of the Philippines, LGU Marikina/Marikina Shoe Industry Development Office, Garment Manufacturers Association of the Philippines and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-Philippine Textile Research Institute.
