There is a need for a comprehensive approach, from raw material sourcing to distribution and disposal, that reduces waste, minimises water usage, and adopts renewable energy sources, stresses Zerobarracento’s zero waste designer and CEO Camilla Carrara in a recent interview with Fibre2Fashion. One of the biggest challenges facing the fashion industry is supply chain transformation; every step the production process requires to be rethought.

Consumer awareness and collaboration among industry stakeholders, Carrara added, are crucial factors, coupled with the industry’s investment in innovative practices. “The industry must invest in innovation and reimagine its practices,” she told F2F.

Carrara also discussed the ‘slow fashion’ concept. “Slow fashion encourages consumers to develop a more mindful and conscious approach to fashion, considering the social and environmental implications of their choices,” she added.

Anticipating future trends, Carrara noted an increase in demand for timeless, versatile designs, and a shift towards local production and artisanal craftsmanship. She posits that slow fashion could instigate innovative business models that emphasise durability, repairability, and recyclability of garments.
