Germany will offer technical and financial cooperation worth €191 million (about Tk 2,215 crore) to Bangladesh for the latter’s sustainable development. Two bilateral agreements on development cooperation were recently signed in Dhaka in this regard, following up on the commitments of the last government negotiations in December 2022.

Of the total amount, €55 million will be available as technical cooperation (TC) and the rest for financial cooperation (FC), a news agency reported.

The main implementing agencies will be the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) for technical cooperation and KfW for financial cooperation.

The projects under technical cooperation agreement include those on promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy; grid integration; advanced vocational training and promotion of employment for female textile workers; professional education in industrial and environmental safety; sustainability in the textile and leather sector; and fostering participation of women and youth involvement.

The projects under financial cooperation agreement cover those under climate change-adapted urban development programmes.

Germany has been providing financial and technical assistance for the development of Bangladesh since 1972.

At present, 23 projects in Bangladesh are being financed by the German government.
