About 15 Indian companies are participating in the 60th edition of the Cairo Fashion & Tex international fashion and textile exhibition, currently underway in Egypt. The Indian companies are presenting a wide range of high fashion fabrics, yarns, home textiles, scarves, shawls, stoles, manmade fibres and their blends, furnishing and more at the fair.

The Cotton Textile Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) has organised the Indian pavilion at the event, which is sponsored by the Indian government in association with the Embassy of India in Cairo.

India has actively participated in the Cairo Fashion & Tex exhibitions every year, said media reports quoting Sanjay Bhattacharyya, India's Ambassador to Egypt.

He added that Indian is one of the largest producers of cotton and India's cotton and textiles are popular internationally. A unique thing about India is that it can supply high-end as well as low-end textile items in both small and large quantities.

Textile plants of India feature modern machinery and are managed by professionals, designers and experts that create new effects, designs, finishes and more to keep up with the modern trends, said Bhattacharyya.

Joint director of TEXPROCIL, Shailesh Martis, said that the council is participating in the fair to explore and test the Egyptian market so that it can bring relevant products to the country.

India exported textile and garments worth $297 million to Egypt in 2016. Cotton yarn was the dominant product as it valued at $143 million. Manmade yarn fabrics and cotton fabrics were exported to the tune of $105 million and $21 million, respectively. (KD)
