Trade is a challenge in India-US ties, but the two sides can soon arrive at a mutually-beneficial and satisfactory conclusion, Indian Ambassador to the US Harsh Vardhan Shringla told The Heritage Foundation think tank recently. Indian commerce minister Piyush Goyal and US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer are likely to meet soon in this regard, he said.

"One of the issues (challenges) is trade. As the US seeks to recalibrate its trading relationships with not just India but with countries across the globe, we are happy to engage in that effort,” a news agency quoted the ambassador as saying.

"We see it in a long-term perspective, not just four or five years hence, but 50 years down the line. What is our strategic partnership? Where would we end up? How do we cooperate?" the envoy added. (DS)
