Ever since the State has announced economic packages, cases of farmers' suicides have been reduced substantially. Due to this reason, proposals made by different farmer's organization to hike the rate of raw cotton have been turned down by Maharashtra Government.
It is claimed by Chief Minister that economic packages of Prime Minister(Rs3750-crore) and the state package (Rs1500-crore) are fetching results. As State Government is facing financial crises, the hike in rate of raw cotton has been turned down.
The organizations have demanded at least a support price of Rs2200 but the Government announced a meager amount of Rs1900 per quintal.
Congress had made an election promise to give a rate of Rs2700 per quintal but failed to fulfill promise due to state's financial condition.
