Shen Shuan-chuan, studying at the postgraduate level at National Yunlin University of Science and Technology, has bagged the first prize at a towel designing contest held under the aegis of a Taiwanese textile firm having a production base in Kunshan, China.

The firm supplies 'Gemini' brand towels to customers and hotels across the globe.

428 designers participated in the contest held at Yunlin University's Graduate School of Visual Communication Design.

Taiwan was once a leading exporter of towel items like hand towels, wash clothes, bath towels, medical towels, face towels, beach towels and other household textiles. However, the Taiwanese towel firms now fall behind other Asian countries in terms of output, software, equipments and hardware.

One of the main aims behind holding such a competition in the country was to encourage textile firms to enhance their investment towards upgradation of their facilities and thereby to boost their competitiveness in the world market.

The other aim underlying the idea was to encourage increasing number of people with design talents, who can help in designing better towels for consumers across the globe.
