The recently concluded Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (BATEXPO) 2011 has helped the domestic readymade garment (RMG) sector to secure US$ 66.35 million worth of export orders.
Md. Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), which organized the expo, said apparel producers of the country bagged spot orders worth US$ 64.77 million from overseas buyers while orders to the tune of US$ 1.58 million were received as stock lot orders.
Orders received this year are a 2.07 percent rise over orders received during the same event last year. Spot and stock lot orders worth US$ 63.50 million and US$ 1.50 million respectively were received at the last year's expo.
At the 146 stalls set up in the 22nd edition of the BATEXPO held this year, products and services of several domestic as well as overseas firms were showcased.
The event drew around 15,690 visitors, apart from 3,015 representatives and 175 overseas buyers.
