Braskem, Brazil's largest petrochemical company will be investing around US$ 5 billion in domestic projects during next year.
The investment on new productive capacities will include a naphtha-based polypropylene (PP) plant at Camaçari, and an ethanol-based polyethylene (PE) plant, which will be Braskem's first green PP unit.
A part of investment would also be towards the continued work on the Comperj petrochemical complex in Rio de Janeiro.
Although the focus will be on Brazil, Braskem would continue to explore opportunities in the US.
The company's position in PP got strengthened after it acquired PP assets in the US in 2010 and 2011. The firm now intends to strengthen its business in the PE segment.
Braskem is also considering acquisition of PetroquimicaSuape polyester project, which is being set up by Petrobras in northeastern part of Brazil.
