Malaysia's apparel sector has shown a surprising turnaround in face of the elimination of the textile and apparel quotas.
Both, on the domestic and export demand fronts, the sector has performed remarkably well as available statistics imply.
The domestic output rose in August and continued to grow all through October.
During January to October 2005, the apparel production increased by 13.6 percent over 2004, to 50.124 million units.
Total textile and apparel production in October was the highest since May 2004.
Manufacturing sector overall registered a growth of 5.7 percent compared to the corresponding month a year ago.
The wearing apparel industrial index stood at 91.9 in October 2005 against 67.6 in the same month the previous year.
Further, apparel & clothing accesories provisional exports figures for January to November 2005 stood at RM8484 million against RM8045 million, during the previous year, same period.
