The cotton production estimates presented by the Cotton Crop Assessment Committee (CCAC) for the 2011-12 season have been refuted by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA).
While CCAC is adhering to its crop production estimates, which it has pegged at 12.598 million bales of 170 kg each, PCGA Chairman Amanullah Qureshi said they are expecting the crop output to touch 14 million bales.
Refuting the estimates of CCAC, PCGA members walked out of the meeting to register their protest against the CCAC not paying a heed to their point.
Initially, the crop output target for the 2011-12 season was set at 14.01 million bales, however, this was lowered to 12.2 million bales in view of the massive floods that hit the country late last year.
Mr. Qureshi claimed that 12.829 million bales of cotton have already reached ginners by January 15, and still 900 ginners are operational across the country.
