'China good market for Iranian carpets, handicrafts'

China is a preferred destination for Iranian goods like carpets and handicrafts, Iranian ambassador to Beijing, Mehdi Safari said during his visit to Iran's handicraft fair in Beijing.
The envoy said that around 700 million of 1.35 billion Chinese citizens reside in city areas and around 400 million of them have a high buying power.
Emphasizing on China as an ideal substitute for the EU and the US markets, he said that continued involvement of Iranian entrepreneurs in China can boost Iranian carpet exports to China to US$ 1 billion.
He informed that Iran-China bilateral trade crossed US$ 45 billion in 2011 from the turnover of US$ 29 billion in 2010.
In 2011, non-oil exports of Iran to China were worth US$ 4.5 billion, Mr. Safari said.
He thus looked forward to increased attention being paid to the Chinese market by officials of the Iranian Ministry of Industries, Mines and Trade and also by Iran Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization.
Overall, the Chinese citizens well-received the two-week handicrafts fair of Iran, which started in Beijing with the Chinese New Year.
