Sir Philip Green, owner of Topshop, has said that he would assist more young people to get ahead in the designing and production of apparels.

While informing about the work already done by his company in providing opportunities for fresh talent of young designers, he stressed on helping the production process as well.

At the press launch of London Fashion Week, he said it has now become very important to continue to help and support all the young fashion talent in the country.

He added that a great amount of success has been achieved in bringing fresh talent to the fashion industry and in some cases the new designers have actually supplied their products to Topshop and other outlets across the globe.

He said now the focus should also be on manufacturing side and help young people learn skills needed at various stages of production processes.

Lately, the apparel manufacturing has increased in the UK, and if the production capacity can further widened, it will help UK retailers to be more competitive and manufacture in the country itself, he added.

At the press launch, Sir Philip announced that Topshop will continue to sponsor NewGen, the British Fashion Council's (BFC's) scheme to promote new designers.

Sir Harold Tillman, Chairman of BFC, said UK's fashion industry contributed over £20 billion to the country's economy.

He added that fashion industry employs a lot of young people and BFC will attract more fresh talent and impart skills to them so they can support British fashion business.

The BFC has identified five major areas for developing the UK fashion industry – manufacturing, skills and training, development, philanthropy and sponsorship, and retail opportunities.
