Seeing good response to the textile park in Una district, which was recently sanctioned by the Ministry of Textiles, the north Indian state of Himachal Pradesh has sought funds for setting up another textile park, this time in Kangra district.
Kishan Kapoor, the Himachal Pradesh Minister for Industries, while speaking at a meeting organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said one more textile park should be set up in view of the enormous potential of textile industry in the state.
The Minister urged the Central Government to provide latest equipments to handloom weavers in the state. He also requested the Government to open facilities for training and skill development for the weavers as well as constructing depots for raw materials.
Over 8,700 families from rural areas of six districts are involved in sericulture activities, who together produce 180 tons of cocoons annually. Another 4,000 weavers in the state are engaged in traditional handloom and handicraft sectors.
