Dr. Umasankar Sarma, Director of Central Coir Research Institute (CCRI) informs that their research team (Dr. U. S. Sarma, Mr. T. A. Rajendra Babu, Mr. C. R. Komalakumar, Mr. A. Radhakrishnan, and Mr. V. Ramachandran) at CCRI has been awarded the coveted NRDC (National Research Development Corporation, DSIR, Govt.of India) Meritorious Invention Award which carries a purse of Rs. 3 Lakhs.
The invention of Mobile Fibre Extraction Machine (SWARNA) has been also awarded the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Rights Organization) Gold Medal from GENEVA, considering this as the Best Invention of the year 2010.
WIPO is an Organization of United Nations. There are 185 countries, members of this organization. This award was presented to the team on 23rd March, 2012 by His Excellency, Mr. Kenneth Viagem Marizane, Vice Minister of Trade and Industry, Mozambique at Mumbai in a function organized by the NRDC.
