The production of sewing machines in China increased to 17.06 million machines in 2011, showing a rise of 6.9 percent year-on-year, according to the estimates of the China Sewing Machine Association.
The production of industrial sewing machines grew to 9.68 million, registering a year-on-year increase of 10.7 percent, which included 50,000 computerized embroidery machines, production of which was up 11.1 percent year-on-year.
In 2011, the output of home sewing machines in China increased by 2.9 percent year-on-year to 7.38 million machines.
During the year, the exports of sewing machines from China rose to US$ 2 billion, up 24.2 percent year-on-year.
In China, there were 226 companies that were producing sewing machines and had annual turnover of at least 20 million Yuan. The sales of these firms grew by 19.8 percent y-o-y in 2011. However, their overall profits declined by 1.4 percent y-o-y owing to stable sales in the second half of the year.
About 19 of the 226 large-scale sewing machine manufacturing companies posted loss last year.
