ARTLANT PTA starts purified terephthalic acid production

ARTLANT PTA started running last week and it is already supplying its range of clients. The unit has an installed capacity of 700 thousand tons of PTA (purified terephthalic acid), which will be used mainly in the polyester industry, for the manufacture of fibres and PET packaging – a 100% recyclable material.
With this capacity, ARTLANT PTA will become the second largest European producer with the most recent and modern industrial unit in the whole of Europe.
Equipped with the state of the art technology, the performance of the industrial unit, when compared with similar units, will enable energy consumption optimization and a significant reduction on environmental emissions of volatile organic compounds to the atmosphere.
Taking into account the current international market prices, on a full year, the annual turnover could exceed 600 million Euros. The Sines plant plans to export 95% of its production volume and will generate about 400 direct and indirect jobs.
Its location in Sines is strategic and will facilitate shipping of the product worldwide, in a fast and economical way. ARTLANT's key market will be Europe, for its proximity, but the target regions also include Africa, the CIS and Baltic States, the Middle East, India and Brazil.
