The Nepal Pashmina Industries Association (NPIA) is planning to set up special centres to collect and process chyangra wool from villages in Mustang district.
The decision is based on a survey undertaken by the NPIA and the Government regarding availability of chyangra wool in various villages across Mustang, Manang, Humla, Darchula and Dolpa districts.
The study showed that there are some regions in Nepal that have the potential to meet nearly one-fourth of the total chyangra wool demand of the domestic pashmina industry.
Subsequently, NPIA urged the Government to begin collection and processing of raw wool in those villages.
However, finding no response from the Government, the NPIA has now decided to establish chyangra wool collection centres on its own without any support from the Government.
The NPIA and its members will initially establish collection centres in various villages of Mustang district.
