Taiwanese New Trend Textile collection at Performance Days

New Trend Textile has recently been awarded bluesign certification, confirming the company's strategy to develop high performance fabrics that have a reduced environmental footprint. Smart Dry, Heat Dry and EcoDai fabric ranges will be the highlight of the New Trend Textile collection at Performance Days in May 2012.

New Trend Textile, a textile converter based in Taipei, is now a Bluesign System Partner effective March 14, 2012. The company, which specialises in high performance fabrics targeting the active and lifestyle sportswear markets, has fulfilled the requirements of the Swiss certification organisation.

Smart Dry is a synthetic fibre with a cotton-like hand featuring improved moisture management properties due to the micro-grooved cross-section fibre and double-face knit construction. The fibre instantly absorbs skin moisture and transfers it to the outer surface of the fabric where it rapidly evaporates, keeping the skin dry, comfortable and cool. Smart Dry effectively adjusts to body temperature. Key applications for Smart Dry include casual and sports shirts, functional running and hiking apparel as well as underwear.

Heat Dry is based on a special fibre blend of micro-denier polyester and Tencel that absorbs moisture and converts it into heat energy to keep the body warm. Its advanced thermal insulation properties prevent heat from escaping and increases temperature inside the garment. Heat Dry is also a highly effective moisture and temperature management fabric concept due to the grooved fibre cross-section which traps air inside the fabric and expels moisture to the outer layer. In addition, the microfibre and lyocell blend offer a soft hand, making it an ideal fabric for intimate apparel and performance sportswear.

EcoDai is another recent addition to the New Trend Textile range. The low-temperature and low-carbon-emission dyeing process creates subtle melange effects. EcoDai fabrics are dyed at 98°C instead of 130°C and oil consumption is reduced to 63 litres (per dye lot of 500 kg of fabric) compared to 124 litres for conventional polyester. EcoDai has enabled New Trend Textile to expand its offering of sweater-look knits.

Founded in Taipei in 1990 by Jason Chen, New Trend Textile is a highly creative and innovative textile company that has recently invested in reducing its environmental impact. Jason Chen is particularly well known for having created a natural double-weave technology, which preserves the functions and features of natural fibres and has won him the prestigious name of “the Fabric Magician”.
