A new European trade union federation representing over 7 million workers in Europe's key industrial and manufacturing sectors will soon seethe light of day.

On 16th May 2012, trade unions affiliated to the European Metalworkers' Federation (EMF), the European Mine, Chemical and Energy Workers' Federation (EMCEF) and the European Trade Union Federation for Textiles, Clothing and Leather (ETUF:TCL) will form a new European Trade Union Federation (ETUF) at their Founding Congress in Brussels.

By joining forces, the founding members intend to step up their fight for decent working conditions and secure employment for all European industrial workers and for a strong and sustainable industry in Europe. The new federation aims to be a powerful future player in the European policy arena, vis-a-visEuropean companies, European industry and employers' associations and the EU institutions.

The Dissolution Congresses of the founding members will take place on 15thMay 2012. On the following day, the Founding Congress will adopt statutes and apolitical resolution for the new organization and elect its political leadership.

The headquarters of the new organization will be in the International Trade Union House in Brussels thereby reinforcing the close links to the ETUC and the international trade union community.
