Italian textile machinery will display quality, technology, creativity at ITMA Asia

the second edition of itma asia (singapore, 17-21 october 2005) will show an even stronger and more significant participation of the italian “team” than the first one. 135 companies will exhibit in singapore the “top” of their technologies within the spinning, weaving, knitting and finishing sectors, in the firm belief that itma asia offers the most favourable opportunity for meeting the major decision makers of the textile world.

asia has a leading role in the textile and clothing industry. major shifts in the location of production are under way from developed countries towards asian developing countries. this migration at the beginning was due to the differences in labour costs but now is favoured also by the improvement of the quality of life in many asian countries.

some figures testify this situation. world trade organization (wto) data reveal that about 44% of the world t/c exports comes from asian countries. china, hong kong, korea, taiwan, india, pakistan, indonesia and bangladesh are among the top exporters of textile and clothing items.

the asian markets are the leading customers of the world textile machinery industry. during 1995 - 2003 period the market share of asia in the world import of textile machinery grew from 44% to 47%. in 2003 the value of the sales of imported machinery in asia was worth us$ 8 billion. these figures are forecasted to grow further. in a period where the competition is developing on higher quality products obtained at lesser costs, the importance of updating plants and equipments is well aware to most of the asian countries' authorities, as testified by some programmes that have been carrying out in order to modernize the own textile industry.
