The Signature Premier Fashion Week Kolkata, scheduled to begin from September 14, 2012, has chosen “Eco-Fashion” as its theme for the current year.
The four-day event would showcase innovative designs and collections of nationally acclaimed designers and weavers from West Bengal.
Fashion Week Kolkata Event Director, Yudhajit Dutta said making a move towards reviving the fashion industry of Kolkata, the event would cherish the ethnic roots of Indian fashion with a special focus on weavers of West Bengal.
Designers, who represent the Indian fashion industry globally, would set the Eco-fashion mood at the event, he added.
Some of the famous personalities of Indian fashion industry like Manish Malhotra and Narendra Kumar Ahmed as well as renowned city designers – Agnimitra Paul, Jotish Debnath, Soumitra Mondal, Paromita Bandopadhyay and Abhishek Dutta – would present their creations at the event.
Jotish Debnath would be reintroducing the "jamdani sarees", which have almost vanished from the fashion space, according to the designer.
Sandip Mukheerjee, a designer hailing from remote area of West Bengal, is expected to focus on unique Khadi styles.
Agnimitra Paul, who would be participating in the event for the first time, would focus on designs exclusively for women and on Madhubani painting.
According to Soumitra Mondal, a fashion week is vital for the industry and for whole lifestyle.
The event would serve as a creative outlet for established designers and weavers, while providing upcoming designers an opportunity to showcase their talent.
