Textile exports figures released by Turkey give a positive picture of the industry.
According to the statistics, total exports (all industries) during January – November period of 2004 were $56,626,279 thousand, while the figure stood at $65,994,414 thousand, in 2005.
This was an increase of 16.5 percent over the previous year in 2005.
In apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted sector, total exports were $5,641,184 thousand during the said period in 2004 and $5,986,417 thousand during the same period in 2005. This records a year-on-year increase of 6.1 percent.
In apparel and clothing accessories, non-knitted or crocheted segment, the exports in 2004 were $4,082,745 thousand and $4,422,602 thousand in 2005, registering a year-on-year growth of 8.3 percent.
Talking about other made-up textile articles, sets, worn clothing exports reached $1,790,432 thousand in 2005 while it was $1,676,398 thousand in the previous year, which shows year-on-year increase of 6.8 percent.
Cotton, cotton yarn, woven fabrics of cotton exports have witnessed a slight slump, as exports registered in 2004 were $1,103,838 thousand and in 2005, it was $1,070,146 thousand, indicating a decline by 3.1 percent.
Man-made staple fibres categories witnessed a rise of 4.9 percent with exports in 2005 as exports were pegged at $883,734 thousand compared to $842,121 thousand in 2004.
In man-made filaments sector, against a figure of $811,844 thousand in 2005, the year 2004 recorded only $720,234 thousand, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 12.7 percent.
