The Bangkok Couture Fashion Week 2012, also known as Siam Paragon International Couture Fashion Week, hosted a high-profile event ‘The Queen of Thai Silk’ in honour of the respected Queen Sirikit of Thailand, who is known for her eclectic tastes in fashion.

‘The Queen of Thai Silk’ featured around 27 looks exclusively made of the country’s indigenous fabric, Thai silk, which were designed by a union of seven renowned domestic and international designers.

The seven designers who created the exotic apparels for the runway presentation were the Paris-based Korean designer Lie Sang Bong, Christophe Josse of France, Yumi Katsura of Japan, Frederick Lee of Singapore, as well as Thailand’s Chamnan Pakdeesuk of the label Flynow, Nagara Sambandaraksa of Nagara and Sirichai Daharanont  of the brand Theatre.

The collaborated garment collection includes a range of heavily embellished off-shoulder and body hugging gowns in a soft palate of turquoise, blue and olive green.

The Bangkok Couture Fashion Week, held at the Siam Paragon mall, featured runway shows by various designers and hosted an exhibition of traditional costumes made of Thai silk.

The hand-woven Thai silk, made from tie and dyed yarn, has a very unique texture, design and possesses a certain kind of stiffness and shine, which is ideal for sharp tailoring.
