Saurer buys out Fairfield Manufacturing Company

Textile machinery leader Saurer Management AG has acquired 100 percent of the share capital of Fairfield Manufacturing Company Inc. In 2005, Fairfield had sales of approximately USD 230m and a workforce of 1,650 employees.

The company's headquarters and main production facility is located in Lafayette, IN, USA. In addition, Fairfield has a manufacturing presence in Belgaum, India. Fairfield will be integrated into Saurer's Transmission Systems division (Graziano Trasmissioni).

The main product categories of Fairfield are planetary gear drives (under the Torque Hub trade name), custom gears (predominately large diameter gears), and custom gear assemblies. Primary end markets which rely on the Torque Hub planetary gear drive include aerial work platforms and offshore platforms, agricultural and road construction equipment.

Custom gear end market applications include rail, mining, agricultural, construction, offshore platforms and material handling. Custom gear assemblies are utilized for numerous speciality applications including track drives, power take-offs, pump drives, and drop boxes for defence, oil and energy, underground and aboveground mining and agricultural applications.

Fairfield's customer base includes many well-recognized industrial companies, including AGCO, Allison Transmission, Case New Holland, Caterpillar, Electro Motive Diesel, General Electric, John Deere, JLG, Joy Global, SPX and Terex.

The combinationof Fairfield and Graziano Trasmissioni creates a globally leading solution provider for speciality transmissions and gears. Fairfield adds attractive specialities to Saurer's product portfolio, grants access to new applications, provides Graziano a manufacturing footprint in the NAFTA region, and offers better access to US customers. In return, Graziano and Saurer provide a platform for Fairfield to further penetrate the European market.
