China’s textile industry witnessed rapid development during the ten year period from 2001 to 2011.

Overall textile exports from China surged nearly four times to 212 billion in 2011, from just 53 billion in 2001. In fact, nearly 80 percent of this growth was achieved during the later half of the decade.

Similarly, the volume of fibre processing by China’s textile industry increased from 13.6 million tons in 2000 to 41.3 million tons in 2010, growing at an average rate of 14.6 percent in the first five years, and 8.9 percent during the later five years.

The world’s fibre processing capacity grew by 72.37 percent during 2000 to 2009, but if the increase in China’s fibre processing capacity is deducted, then the world fibre processing capacity dipped by 17.89 percent during the same period.

The production of man-made fibre in China increased from 6.942 million tons in 2000 to 30.896 million tons in 2010. Yarn production, including cotton and synthetic yarn production, rose from 6.6 million tons to 27.17 million tons during the said period.

During the period under review, industrial textiles also became a new growth story, and its total processing capacity grew from 1.738 million tons to 8.218 million tons.
