Innovene's Chocolate Bayou completes successful ethylene unit expansion & turnaround

olefins & derivatives producer innovene's chocolate bayou manufacturing site in alvin, texas, just south of downtown houston, announced today that it has successfully completed the expansion and turnaround of its olefins no. 1 unit. the changes were implemented to meet stricter texas commission on environmental quality (tceq) environmental operating laws.
the project - which successfully produced prime product within just 26 hours of feedstock being introduced - adds 650 mmibs of ethylene capacity to site, one of the largest olefins capacity expansions in north america this year.
alicia izarraraz, chocolate bayou's works general manager, commented, "our commitment to the environment and the community in which we operate and live has been a key driver of this project. it adds efficiency to our manufacturing process, provides the community with a more environmentally friendly manufacturer, and adds significant capacity to the chocolate bayou site: truly a win - win."
during the construction project, employees and contractors recorded approximately 3.5 million work hours and had an osha recordable incident rate of less than 0.05.
innovene was born in april 2004, when bp announced its intention to set up its olefins and derivatives businesses as a separate entity within the bp group. bp also announced its intention to sell the new company in the second half of 2005, possibly through an initial public offering, depending on market conditionsandand necessary approvals.
