Cambodian government approved two Special Economic Zones (SEZ), said Prime Minister Hun Sen.

He also advised concerned government authorities to ensure smooth procedures for the companies to realize their plans.

The two zones will be located at Phnom Penh and Takeo province.

It is learnt that Attwood Import-Export Co Ltd plans to invest US $60 million in a special economic zone (SEZ) on 353 hectares of land in the outskirts of Phnom Penh.

The zone will incorporate garment, footwear and electric appliance producers, local media informed.

In Takeo's Kirivong district, the Doung Chhiv Development Company would implement a $70-million project to construct a zone on 57 hectares of land, which plans to attract factories processing agriculture products such as fish and wine.

The company would invest $28 million initially.

Both firms will start their operations by the end this year, according to government spokesman Khieu Kanharith.

SEZs provide special tax exemption on imported raw materials besides other benefit.
