Textile & garment export to US make early mark this year

Textile and apparel exports to the US have picked up good momentum early this year, returning impressive figures according to preliminary reports.

In February 2006, Vietnamese textiles exports will cross US $ 430 million mark and is expected to grow with the passage of time, confident industry sources said.

Industry insiders say that application of auto visa granting for the US market and elimination of export quota to the EU market have boosted the stakes of this large foreign currency earner.

Preliminary statistics show that the total textiles and garment export value in January reached $ 380 million, up 13.1 percent compared with same period, last year.

Quota - controlled categories among them accounted for $ 152 million in exports, a clear 60 percent rise as compared to January 2005.

In 2005, the total textile and garment export turnover stood at $ 4.84 billion, at 10.4 percent growth rate, of which 5.2 percent increase was recorded for US market, 17.33 percent from EU market and 65.71 percent from the emerging Canadian market, statistics indicated.

Notably, exports to the US and the EU markets during year-end months usually record most remarkable growth, it is said in case of Vietnam.
