Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) stated that the Governments of Viet Nam and Indonesia have reached a consensus on assigning their MOFA to design the 2006-2010 action plans for the Joint Declaration on the Framework of Comprehensive Cooperation in the 21 century.
Prime Minister Phan Van Khai met with newly-elected Indonesian Vice President Muhammad Jusuf Kalla for working session on February 22 in Jakarta to discuss this and other issues.
PM Khai reiterated that Viet Nam has always attached great importance to its cooperative ties with Indonesia, which are currently well-developed in the fields of politics, economics, trade, investment, culture, education and training.
He further said that the joint declaration would formulate strategic partnership relations between the two countries, fostering long-term stability in the region.
Vice President Muhammad spoke highly of Viet Nam's achievements in national construction and development, which have helped earn the country an ever-increasing status in the regional arena.
He also suggested that Viet Nam and Indonesia should work to help their youths better understand their long-standing relations so as to strengthen their ties in the future.
Later in the day, at a meeting with Indonesian Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Agung Laksono, PM Khai affirmed that Viet Nam has always attached importance to developing traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Indonesia.
The Speaker invited the Vietnamese National Assembly to attend upcoming the Asian-African parliamentary conference in Indonesia.
