Ten leading international art & design schools present award-winning competition entries.
The winners of a competition for design students, announced in 2004 by the Italian company Alcantara SPA and organised by Mittelmoda International Lab, will be presented at Berlin's Backfabrik at the designer show EuroFashion Week Berlin "Power of Design".
Alcantara is Italy's leading manufacturer of luxury textiles. Design students from ten leading art & design schools, among them the international fashion school Esmod Berlin, were given the task of designing a 10-piece collection for 40 to 45 centimetre high dolls. The award-winning miniature collections were first shown in Milan in 2004 and subsequently went on a worldwide tour. They were enthusiastically received in New York, Sao Paulo and Brussels, and now go on display at Maastricht's Academie Beeldende Kunsten from 9 to 19 May. During the course of Berlin's July fashion shows they will also be stopping over at EuroFashion Week Berlin "Power of Design".
The competition was organised in 2004 by Mittelmoda International Lab, Grado/Gorizia. As specialists for organising events and PR projects this agency's principal objective is discovering creative designers worldwide, with an aim to bringing the textile industry, fashion schools, teachers, students and certified designers from around the world closer together and to provide international brand names with creative new talent.
