Footwear, garments & clothing materials prices up in Feb

Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released the Inflation Rate for the month of February 2006. It stated that in February the inflation rate at 0.4 percent.
After low inflation rates in the past four months, in February the inflation rate was again slightly higher. Compared to the previous month consumer prices rose by 0.4 percent.
The February inflation rate was the result of higher prices of both goods (on average by 0.4 percent) and services (by 0.2 percent).
As regards goods, prices of semi-durable goods increased by 0.7 percent and of non-durable goods by 0.5 percent, whereas durable goods were 0.3 percent cheaper. Among services, air transport was 3.3 percent more expensive.

In February higher prices were registered in the groups clothing and footwear (by 1.5 percent).
The end of winter sales caused the increase in prices of clothing and footwear: prices of footwear were up by 3.1 percent, of clothing materials by 2.5 percent and of garments by 1.1 percent.
In February lower prices were registered in the group's education (by 0.9 percent) and furnishing, household equipment and maintenance (by 0.4 percent).
The fall of prices in these three groups was mostly the result of discounts. In the first group education not definably by level was 4.6 percent cheaper, while in the second group prices of furniture and household articles and in the third group prices of some postal services and mobile telephone services were slightly down.
Lower prices of goods and services decreased the total price growth by 0.1 percentage point. In February the annual growth of prices was down again; this time to 2.2 percent. The 12-month average price growth was down to 2.5 percent. Prices in the groups clothing and footwear, health and communication were on average lower than a year ago.
