Vice Minister of Commerce Xiaoqi summons US Charge D'Affaires – 'textiles' war of words flares up

Liao Xiaoqi, Vice Minister of Commerce summoned Sidney, Charge D'Affaires ad interim of USA Embassy in China, for US Restricting three categories of Chinese textile products, and delivered a Chinese Government note, expressing strongly dissatisfaction and object to US restriction.

Liao Xiaoqi said global textile integration was implemented for just 4 months, according to the short-term inaccurate data, US side started investigation for restriction and made decision of implementing the restriction on Chinese textile products, which deviated from the basic spirit of free trade of World Trade Organization, violated Agreement on Textile and Clothing of WTO, and did not accord with the related laws of China's entry to WTO.

In the initial period of textile integration, US abused restriction on Chinese textile products promptly, which not merely sent out the wrong trade protectionism signal to US industry, harmed deserved rights and interests of Chinese enterprises in integrating, and seriously injured the confidence of Chinese enterprise and people to the international trading environment after the entry to the WTO.

Vice Minister Liao Xiaoqi urged the US side to revise wrong doings, so that China-US textile trade could develop steadily.
