The Trade Minister Elka Pangestu stated that China may surge its domestic market with textile and apparel products after restricting certain textile products import by the US Government.
Pangestu explained that if China decrease textile products export to developed countries, then where will those products go?. “Chinese made garments could flood the Indonesian market,” she added.
Indonesian textile sector was about to lose its hold in US textile imports, as it was expected that major players of the industry like China and India would snatch lions share in the sector after ending of global quotas on January 1 this year.
US has already placed restrictions on surge of the Chinese textile products imports to its local markets, the EU is likely to pursue the path of Bush administration and started threatening China to impose quota of its own.
In the dilemma of the global textile sector the China may seek countries like Indonesia to redirect its exports.
