According to statistical data released by government, total exports of the country were $33.9 million for January 2006, which reflected a decrease of $14.1 million as against the figures of same month in last year.

Re-exports showed a fall of 29.4 percent, with total exports standing at $48.4 million.

Government officials informed that decline in domestic exports was the result of fall in garment exports.

Decrease in exports of life jackets and life belts, baby garments and clothing accessories of cotton, women's and girls' cotton suits and men's and boys' cotton garments has affected textiles and textile goods to go down by $7.6 million (53.8 percent) to $6.6m, stated goverment officials.

The biggest fall was recorded for exports to the United States, which was down 52.9 percent, from $6.5 million to $5.8 million.

This decline was due to falls in garments exports there.

Exports to Australia dropped considerably by 22.7 percent to $13m following the decrease in exports of life jackets and belts.
