US based Carhartt - designer workwear and outerwear maker is likely to source Indian fabric and garments worth $40 million per annum.

Company officials have flown in and are negotiating with prospective suppliers like Arvind, Ashima, Alok Industries, JCT and Maral Overseas. Company plans to source over 2 lakh meters of fabric from India and the level may go up to 20 lakh meters per annum.

Denim and knitted items are among the key items likely to be sourced from India.

China and Taiwan are the other two destinations from where textile products will also be sourced.

Consultancy firm KSA Technopak has been appointed by Carhhart to help them explore Indian sources.

Prashant Agarwal, Manager, KSA Technopak informed media that the company was seeking sources for 14 to 15 items with majority from India, and rest from China and Taiwan.

Carhhart is on prowl to seek turnkey garment suppliers for denim and knitted items.

It is understood that the phasing out of textile quotas since beginning January, this year, has led Carhhart to seek optional sources from Asia. The company had never before sourced from outside the US.

The likes of Tom Hanks, Kris Kristofferson among others have worn Carhhart products while performing their on screen acts.
