Clothing, footwear & household textiles prices up

Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia released the Inflation Rate for the March 2006. It stated that in March inflation rate at 0.8 percent.

As in the previous years, this year too in March a relatively high growth of prices was registered; compared to the previous month consumer prices were up by 0.8 percent. In the first three months of this year prices were up by 0.7 percent, while in the first three months of last year they were up by 1.1 percent.

In March too the inflation rate was influenced by higher prices of both goods (on average by 0.9 percent) and services (by 0.7 percent).

As regards goods, prices of semi-durable goods increased by as much as 7.4 percent, while prices of durable and non-durable goods were down by 1.1 percent and 0.1 percent respectively.

In March higher prices were registered in the groups clothing and footwear (by 10.6 percent).

As regards clothing and footwear, the main impact of the new season and the related rise in prices was most noticeable in March. On average, prices of clothing were up by 11.6 percent and prices of footwear by 9.7 percent.

The growth of prices in the group furnishing, household equipment and maintenance was the result of higher prices of household textiles (by 4.1 percent), tools and equipment for house and garden (by 1.5 percent) and furniture and furnishings (by 1.4 percent).

Higher prices of clothing and footwear pushed the inflation rate up by 0.8 percentage point, while bread and cereals, furnishing, household equipment and maintenance, and health insurance added 0.1 point each.

The fall of prices in the group transport was mostly the result of lower prices of cars (by 2.3 percent) and partly also of lower prices of fuel (by 0.8 percent).
