Mexico City has officially broken the record for hosting the world’s largest fashion parade, with nearly 3,083 models walking the ramp on an open fashion show, held in Chapultepec Park of the city last November.

According to a statement issued by the Mexican National Chamber of the Apparel Industry (CANAIVE), the Guinness World Record made it official last week naming Mexico City the record holder for ‘World’s largest urban fashion parade’ with nearly 3,083 models showcasing creations of fashion design students and amateur designers from the city.

The grand fashion parade was made possible with support from the Mexican Department of Economic Development (SEDECO), CANAIVE, the Institute of Local Youth (INJUVE DF), and the Institute of Advanced Fashion, Casa de Francia.

Titled as the ‘El desfile más grande del mundo (meaning The World’s Largest Parade), the event showcased an array of relaxed streetwear styles mixed with indigenous designs, inspired from the clothes sported by Mexico’s rural and urban people.

The show had models parading in hip-hop style graffiti adorned baggy clothes, printed with pre-Columbian Mayan culture-influenced symbols.

With the event, Mexico City has successfully broken the Guinness World Record held previously by Philippines’ Makati City’s catwalk show hosted in December 2012, featuring 2,225 models on the ramp.
