Honolulu to host first ever fashion week in November

The Hawaiian capital city of Honolulu would be hosting its first ever fashion week, Honolulu Fashion Week, which is scheduled to be held from November 7 to 8, 2014, as part of one of the events of the Hawaii Fashion Month (HFM).

The two-day event, organized by Honolulu Magazine in collaboration with the Japan Fashion Week organizers, would have internationally renowned fashion labels collaborating with Hawaiian designers in order to create unique and exclusive collections.

International labels such as Saturday Surf NYC from New York, Mr. Gentleman from Tokyo and renowned fashion designers Maison Kitsune from Paris and Corto Moltedo of Milan would be collaborating with local designers Heather Brown, Kaypee Soh and Sig Zane to create the exclusive designs.

Visitors would be able to buy these creations at a pop-up shop which would display them as well as other curated collections from Hawaii’s up and coming fashion designers after the show.

Alyson Helwagen, publisher of the Honolulu Magazine, said during the announcement of the launch of the event that the partnership with Japan Fashion Week organizers as well as international designers may serve as a catalyst in facilitating the entry of Hawaiian fashion in the global market.

The HFM was initiated by the Hawaii Fashion Incubator (HiFi) and the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism (DBEDT), who declared the month of October 2013 as the month of fashion in the state of Hawaii. Around 40 fashion and film events were hosted during the entire month of October last year.

This year, the Hawaii Fashion Month has been moved to the month of November, and several fashion events, including the Honolulu Fashion Week, would be hosted during the first ten days of the month.
