Benzene prices dip in Asia last fortnight; up in Europe

The prices of benzene decreased in Asian markets in the last fortnight ending January 31, 2014, compared to the previous fortnight ending January 15, due to sluggish buying sentiments in the region coupled with a drop in upstream crude value, whereas they increased in Europe due to tight product availability in the region.

In Korea, the average benzene price in January 2014 was US$ 1345/ton, which was an increase of 5.70 percent over the average price of $1425/ton during the corresponding month last year.

In the previous fortnight, the average benzene price was $1350/ton, which decreased by 0.56 percent to $1340/ton in the last fortnight. On February 10, 2014, the price of benzene in Korean market was assessed at $1345/ton.

In India, the average price of benzene dropped by $5/ton to $1350/ton in the last fortnight, compared to the average price of $1355/ton in the previous fortnight. On February 10, benzene price was assessed at $1355/ton.

In Japan, average benzene price was $1345/ton in the last fortnight, slightly lower compared to the previous fortnight. On February 10, price was assessed at $1350/ton.

In European International market, average price of benzene rose by 3.55 percent in the last fortnight to $1460/ton, vis-à-vis the average price of $1410/ton in the previous fortnight. On February 7, benzene price was assessed at US$ 1420/ton.

In US, the average price of benzene surged up by 2.94 percent to 525 cents/gallon in the last fortnight, compared to 510 cents/gallon in the previous fortnight, due to tight product availability in the region and gains recorded in the downstream product value in the last fortnight.
