Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein cap-off NYFW

Industry powerhouses like Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein brought the curtains down on the eight-day-long fashion marathon Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

The American design veteran Ralph Lauren featured two shows, highlighting the latest Autumn/Winter 2014 creations from his two popular labels Polo Ralph Lauren and Ralph Lauren Collection.

Taking cues from his spring 2014 runway range, featured in September, 2013, the Polo collection included some sporty pieces in monochromatic neon shades. However, the main line displayed an array of gorgeous elegant gowns, cashmere capes, ponchos and relaxed slim-cut trousers in a wintery palette of soft pastels such as mauve, lavender and gray.

Manhattan-based upscale fashion house Calvin Klein’s womenswear designer Francisco Costa drew inspiration from 1990’s grunge looks for his latest streetwear meets gypsy style collection. Accessorised with Dr. Martens-like high combat boots, the range included menswear-inspired fuzzy mohair overcoats with glass beaded huge safety pins, tea-length skirts, long knitted sweaters with fringe details and gauzy nylon dresses with sheer insets and glass belts.

French furrier, J. Mendel once again wove magic with his variedly textured and colourful furry creations. The cosy ensembles included long plaid mink vests, emerald green leather turtleneck blouses, knitted fox capes, intarsia fox-front jackets with diagonal panels and asymmetrical front slit skirts.
