MOT's trade delegation to Spain for trade expansion

A Vietnamese trade delegation is scheduled to visit Spain in June under Ministry of Trade's 2006 trade promotion plan.

The seven-day visit envisages creation of opportunities for domestic enterprises to market their products for export and establishing of new investment contacts, according to Ministry's European Department.

It will help to promote key exports, including agricultural and seafood products, footwear, handicrafts, electronics, and textiles and garments.

Spain is regarded as a potential export market for these products, an official from the department said, adding that entrepreneurs of the two countries have yet to fully access each other's markets.

The visit would offer them opportunities to have a direct dialogue to search suitable trade partners, he added.

Some of the large economic groups of Spain were considering increased investment in Viet Nam, and many smaller enterprises intend to increase imports of Vietnamese products, according to Vietnamese Trade Office in Spain.

Textile, garment and footwear industries have been presented with this opportunity to further access the market and help country make up losses caused by the EU's anti-dumping suit against Viet Nam leather shoes.

Bilateral trade between Viet Nam and Spain reached US $450 million last year, with $393 million alone coming from Vietnamese exports.
