Japan's fashion industry has planned to launch 'Japan fashion week' to promote Japanese fashion brands all over the globe.
The event is scheduled to start from the end of October to the beginning of November. It will be promoted as "a Paris collection with a Tokyo style."
Shoichi Nakagawa, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry informed about the event at a news conference. Industry sources said famous designers in the Japanese fashion industry such as Rei Kawakubo appeared in succession during the 1980s, but they repeatedly moved their bases of work overseas.
Japanese fashion industry plans to hold an intensive Japanese fashion show for about one week, like shows in New York and Milan, to promote Japanese fashion to the world.
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has chosen fashion as an area to promote intellectual asset-based industrial strategies, and officials hope the fashion week will provide chances to produce attractive threads and material that are only found in Japan, thereby also supporting material manufacturers.
This autumn's Tokyo Collection, featuring designs for spring-summer 2006, will be staged at Jingu Gaien park from Oct. 31 to Nov. 9. A giant tent with a capacity of 1,200 people will be built at the site.
