About 24 womenswear and 10 menswear designers showcased their eclectic lines of exquisite Autumn/Winter 2014 creations at the just concluded edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Joburg (MBFWJ).

Famous South African designer Marianne Fassler infused each and every distinctive feature of traditional African fabrics that are woven in different districts of the vast continent into her latest catwalk collection. Packed with a punch of signature African prints along with the on-trend animal patterns, the bold hued collection was enhanced with intricate details.

Abigail Betz took inspiration from the multi-layered Japanese wedding kimonos for her new runway presentation. Accentuated with hand-dyed work and beads, the meticulously detailed timeless pieces included a 12-layered luxurious silk wedding dress, winter coats and some fitted short cocktail numbers.

The classic black and white colours received a very unusual treatment in the hands of Avant Apparel label. The clothier’s new range featured coats and skirts with asymmetrical hemlines, tight-fit blousons and voluminous dresses.

Fashion designer Adriaan Kuiters chose to showcase chunky knitwear ensembles for both men and women. Decorated with circle prints and zig-zag patterns, the range included pullovers, checkered coats, fur bags and sweaters with massive hands painted on them.

MBFWJ was jointly organized by the German automobile manufacturer Mercedes-Benz as well as Africa’s premier fashion events and promotions company African Fashion International (AFI).
