Pakistani firms seek business in Catarinese textile sector

According to a statement issued by the Federation of Industries of Santa Catarina (FIESC), entrepreneurs from the textile hub of Pakistan’s Faisalabad met with representatives of FIESC, in order to strengthen the relations between the two countries in the textile sector.

Sergio Luis Pires, president of the Development of the Fashion Industry of Santa Catarina, said that the Catarinese textile industry is one of the most important industrial sectors in the country, contributing around 6.8 percent to Brazil’s gross domestic product (GDP) and providing 16.5 percent of employment in the state.

The textile and apparel industry has a competitive and challenging market and it is necessary to cooperate and collaborate in order to turn one's weaknesses into strength, he added.

At the meeting, Ulrich Kuhn, president of the Union of Spinning, Weaving and Clothing of Blumenau (SINTEX), said the business potential, especially in the textiles sector, of both the countries is untapped and underestimated.

The Catarinese textile sector buys its inputs from major international corporations, most of which are Chinese supplier industries, and Pakistan has the potential to sell their supplies directly to the Brazilian state, he added.

Commercial Consul of the Embassy of Pakistan in Brazil Syed Tajammal Hussain said that businessmen from both the countries will work out strategies that would benefit both the sides, and the meeting was a first step towards it.
