Indian Textiles Minister K Sambasiva Rao has tendered his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, to show his displeasure over bifurcation of the state of Andhra Pradesh, reports PTI.

In his resignation letter, Mr. Rao said that he cannot continue to be a member of the Council of Ministers against his conscience knowing that the Government has caused irreparable damage to the state of Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Rao, 63, assumed the charge of Minister of Textiles in June 2013.

He represents Eluru constituency of Andhra Pradesh in the Lok Sabha, the Lower House of the Indian Parliament, for which general elections are scheduled to be completed by mid-May 2014.

Earlier this year, after a prolonged demand by the people of Telangana region, the Central Government agreed to bifurcate the state of Andhra Pradesh into two separate states—Telangana and Seemandhra—causing displeasure among people of Seemandhra, the region which Mr. Rao represents.
