22 designers show A/W 2014 lines at Mexico Fashion Week

More than 22 designers, belonging to Mexico and other Latin American countries like Colombia, Uruguay and Argentina, showcased their Autumn/Winter 2014 collections at the just held 15th edition of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Mexico.

Mexican fashion brand Lydia Lavin displayed a collection mainly made from back strap loom woven wrought cotton textiles. Adorned with precious Swarovski crystals, the range also included pieces crafted with velvet, metallic lurex, lace and brocade materials.

Malafacha, the fashion label owned by the extremely talented designer duo Francisco Saldaña and Victor Hernal, infused elements of art into its latest fashion creations, replete with abstract motifs and fluid silhouettes.

Lorena Saravia, the designer known for her minimalistic creations, opted to display a leather and silk made range, which included long skirts, shorts, mini-dresses, blouses, jackets and asymmetrical dresses in neutral tones of black, gray, navy blue and sand.

Menswear brand Grypho, from Mexican designer Mauricio Olvera, showcased a camouflage print heavy collection that included sweatshirts, jackets, shirts, t-shirts, jeans, trousers and raincoats.

In addition to the well-known names, a group of six design students, Daniela Martinez, Ana Gómez, Olvido Galguera, Irene Hamui, Violet and Lola Daniel Pazaran, also presented their fresh interpretations for the forthcoming season.

The 23-year-old Daniela Martínez González drew inspiration from the fashion sensibilities of famous Japanese subcultures for her range titled Mori. Based on white and pastel hues, the pieces were incorporated with soft textures, and feminine and youthful silhouettes.

The works of well-known Spanish-Mexican para-surrealist painter and anarchist Remedios Varo played as muse behind the 22-year-old Ana Gomez’s line named Uranga. Made using mohair, the pieces were primarily based on a palette of camel and nude shades.
