Peru Moda shows Peruvian apparel sector's export capacity

The Peruvian international fair for the garment and fashion industry ‘Peru Moda 2014’, is a platform that showcases the export capacity of the country’s garment sector as well as the diversification efforts of Peru’s textile, clothing and fashion industry, said president of the Council of Ministers Rene Cornejo Diaz, during the inauguration of the Peru Moda 2014 in the Peruvian capital city of Lima.

According to a statement issued by the Peruvian Council of Ministers, Mr. Diaz said the event showcases the latest developments in the Peruvian clothing and fashion sector and such activities are a commitment from the Government to diversify supplies to strengthen the country’s export capacity.

Mr. Diaz also highlighted the importance of participation of Peruvian small and medium entrepreneurs (SMEs) in the event, in order to showcase products that have the quality to compete in international markets.

According to the president of Council of Ministers, the event is expected to generate business orders worth US$ 120 million from 400 buyers from countries like the US, Brazil, Mexico, Russia, Japan, Poland, China, Denmark, Sweden and Finland.

Organized by the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for Export and Tourism (PROMPERU), in partnership with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Association of Exporters (ADEX), the Lima Chamber of Commerce, the National Society of Industries, Trade Society of Peru and the Peruvian Institute of Crafts, the three-day event, scheduled to run till April 11, brings together more than 350 exhibitors showcasing their latest apparel products.

Famous Peruvian designers such as Kujon Sumy, Sergio Davila, Meche Correa, Jose Miguel Valdivia, Andrea Llosa, Harumi Momota, Edward Venero, Elfer Castro, Carlos Vigil, José Clemente Jose Zafra, Fátima Arrieta and Alessandra Petersen are also exhibiting their eclectic creations at the event.

More than 10,000 visitors are expected to attend the show which aims to exhibit the best of Peruvian fashion industry in terms of readymade apparel, accessories and textile industry-related products and services.
