A meeting was organized in Istanbul to improve economic cooperation between Africa and Turkey attended by over 20 African Ministers and 2,000 businessmen.
Considered a historic step, Turkish entrepreneurs were urged to initiate investments and take advantage of the massive potential the region hold.
Kursad Tuzmen, State Minister for Foreign Trade explained, “As for Turkey's relations, they have always been based on mutual benefits. We looked with our heart first and then with our brain."
Tuzmen also mentioned the success in export Turkey has maintained in recent years and added, "Global construction activities are being initiated today, and Africa will become one of the most important centers for this. We will be quick to find the right place for us in this new chapter in Africa's future, and right some of the wrongs of the past."
Meanwhile, Zeynep Durukal, speaking at the meeting on behalf of Organization for Islamic Conference (OIC) Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, emphasized Africa placed a great deal of importance in the meeting held in December 2005.
She said the OIC's 10 year action plan aims at increasing trade among organization members from its current rate of 13 percent to 25 percent.
