Portuguese footwear association is organizing a business mission to India from June 4.
Portuguese footwear association, Associação Portuguesa dos Industriais de Calçado, Componentes e Artigos de Pele e Seus Sucedâneos (APICCAPS), has joined hands with export promotion agency ICEP to promote this event.
Under this project, around 20 footwear companies will be included that will seek out Indian companies for joint-ventures, sub-contracts and acquisition of leather and components.
India is considered as 2nd largest economy amongst emerging markets, the association said.
Every year India produces over 167 million square meters of leather and 1.848 billion pairs of shoes.
The Portuguese delegation plans to visit footwear factories, components factories and regions of Agra and Chennai a statement from APICCAPS stated.
Presently around 15 percent of main European footwear brands such as Aerosoles, Clarks, Ecco, Elefanten, Gabor, Marks & Spencer and Salamander, already operate in India according to APICCAPS, including international brands such as Adidas, Fila, Nike and Reebok and clothing brands such as DKNY, Hugo Boss, Pierre Cardin, Tommy Hilfiger and Versace.
